Public Access And Recreation
The Land Reform Act enshrined in law the common custom of unrestricted access to open countryside. This is governed the - Outdoor Access Code - which gives rights and responsibilities to both landmanagers and the public.
Many privately owned moorland estates actively encourage walkers, waymark paths and make other provisions for them. Moorlands owned by public sector and charitable organisations such as Scottish Natural Heritage , National Trust for Scotland , RSPB and John Muir Trust are also well geared up for public access.
