Practical Conservation

The word “conservationist” has come to be associated with people who protect particular species or protest against the exploitation of land and wildlife by man.
Raising awareness about the environment is important, but conservation is just as much about the everyday business of looking after the whole balance of wildlife on an area of land, while taking a sustainable “harvest” from it – the concept of good stewardship.
A well managed moorland is an excellent example of good stewardship, and the keepers and shepherds who do the hard work are some of our best practical conservationists.
